Mercosur residence
Mercosur residence in Brazil
If you're a national of a Mercosur country, the Mercosur Residence Agreement gives you two years' residence in Brazil without a job offer, then residence with no end date.
- For
- Nationals of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay
- Residence
- 2 years, temporary
- Apply
- At a Brazilian consulate, or at the Federal Police in Brazil
- Then
- Indefinite, if you ask in the 90 days before it ends
Who it's for
- Nationals of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Argentines and Uruguayans can also get permanent residence directly under bilateral agreements.
- People who became nationals of one of those countries by naturalization at least five years ago.
- Applying in Brazil works whatever your status when you entered, and it waives the heavier fines for an irregular stay.
How it works
- Gather your documents. Documents from abroad need an apostille or consular legalization; in Brazil, your own country's consulate can certify them.
- Apply at a Brazilian consulate before you travel, or at the Federal Police once you're in Brazil.
- Register with the Federal Police for your RNM and your CRNM card.
- In the 90 days before your two years end, ask for indefinite residence, with proof of legal means of support for you and your family.
Documents
- A valid passport or national ID card
- Your birth certificate and proof of marital status, and your naturalization certificate if you have one
- Criminal record certificates from your country and everywhere you lived in the last five years, and from Brazil when you apply here
- A signed statement that you have no criminal record anywhere
- The fee receipt
The Federal Police can ask for more, depending on your case.
