Digital nomad vs investor
Digital nomad visa or investor visa?
Both routes give you residence in Brazil. The digital nomad route is for remote work for employers or clients abroad. The investor route is for people who bring their own money from abroad into a Brazilian company or property.
In short
The digital nomad visa suits remote workers paid from abroad, with US$1,500 a month or US$18,000 in the bank; it lasts up to a year, renewable. The investor visa suits people bringing their own money into a Brazilian company (R$500,000, or R$150,000 for innovation) or property (R$1,000,000, or R$700,000 in the North and Northeast), with longer residence.

Common questions
Which one gives longer residence?
The investor route. Investing in a company gives indefinite residence, and property gives 4 years, then indefinite. The digital nomad route gives up to one year, renewable for the same period.
Can I apply for either one from inside Brazil?
Yes. For the digital nomad route, you apply to the Ministry of Justice for residence without leaving the country. Both investor routes can also be requested from inside Brazil, or from abroad before the visa.
Can I work for a Brazilian company on the digital nomad visa?
No. Working for an employer in Brazil, with or without an employment contract, rules the digital nomad route out. Work for anyone in Brazil needs a different visa, such as a work visa.
